While I also appreciate Bernhard's efforts in translating the treaty,
surely it would have been more appropriate to make the text available as
a file on the list website rather than distribute it directly to over
100 people, only a handful of whom are likely to make use of it. It is
even more annoying to then see the entire text of the treaty appended to
a reply to Bernhard's posting - especially when that reply makes no
direct reference to the text.

The Yahoo! Groups service has a very user-friendly set of tools for
uploading and retrieving files and for searching archived
correspondence - and the photo album tool is terrific. With these tools
at our disposal there is really no excuse for distributing messages with
file attachments, and little reason to send lengthy messages or to
include anything other than the most relevant extracts of previous
correspondence in our replies.

In the world of 50 gigabyte hard disks etc, these complaints may seem
anachronistic but we should remember that not everyone has unlimited
disk space and some of us have to pay for the time involved in
downloading long messages and file attachments. Moreover, even if we
have the technology, I'm sure we all appreciate anything that reduces
the information overload that we face on a daily basis. Please think
before you post, and make use of the tools that are available to us.

Thanks,
