The following URLs and book will give great circle distances between places.
The nijix site has applets for map projections as well, allowing you to see
how different projections distort the view of a region.
Great fun to play with.
As some of these have lat/long built in, you can just type in the place
names and it gives you the gt circle distance without having to look the
lat/long up in an atlas.
