There is an old story (not sure if it is true) that states that at the start
of the First World War, the exact position of the english/scotish border was
in dispute, as in the past Berwick was part of scotland. So when the war
started, England and Scotland seperatly declared war on Germany and since
Berwick was unsure which side of the border it was, it also declared war on
Germany.

But Berwick never signed the peace treaty at the end of the war, so
technically it is still at war with the German Empire...
