An enlargement of the map I already mentioned in msg. 4770 can be
found at http://www.vld.ru/ppx/Filatov_yu/Hasan.htm

Following talks between Russia and China, in 1997 170 hectares were
handed over by Russia to China in this region. The local governor,
Nazdratenko, has used this "motherland sell-out" theme extensively in
his struggle with Moscow, crying that this would give China an exit
to the sea, which would be detrimental to the economy of the Coastal
Territory (of which he was governor), and that it would be a crying
shame anyway to give away the sacred earth of Hasan, where the
Soviets fought off a Japanese army in 1938. I have never seen a map
of the area that was transfered, but I suspect that it wasn't really
a big deal. But you can still get very popular in Russia by
screaming "not one inch of holy motherland etc." (and at the same
time not caring about the rest of that motherland).

It looks like the railway bridge really very nearly misses the
tripoint on the map!

Anyway, I wish all you BP people a great 2002!
