The Palestinian territories in Israel briefly become daylight-saving
enclaves in spring and autumn, since they change their clocks on
different dates from Israel. This can have important consequences. At
5pm on Sunday 5th September 1999, three Israeli Arabs were blown up by
a bomb they were in the act of planting. The Israeli investigators
concluded that the bomb had been built and primed on Palestinian
territory, and set to go off at 6pm Palestinian Summer Time. But the
men entrusted to plant the thing had their watches set to Israeli
Standard Time (an hour earlier), because the rest of Israel had
shifted its clocks back on Friday 3rd September.
