Your correspondent Godfrey is co-author of a 2002 web page giving a good history
of Anjediv Island and the threat to a very pretty 500-year old Christian church
and pilgrimage site from construction of Asia's largest naval base on the
island. See http://www.goacom.com/goanow/2002/aug/Focus.html . In the web
page, it says that the Goa state government sold the island to the Indian navy
in 1989 with the now violated condition that the church would not be hurt, but
now he says that the island was part of Daman and Diu since the 1987 statehood
of Goa. Hmmm...

I wouldn't write to Hammond just yet.
