following upon the initial reports by doug in message 857
about this the closest tricountry point to canada & the usa
some new bzgtmx leavenings & monumental gleanings
are in the latest bzgt diplomatic news
which have been low key but promising

first a pretty good executive summary at
http://asil.org/insigh59.htm
with scads of legal latin sprinkled in
but including a first known mention of an actual bzgtmx monument
the so called mark of reference in aguas turbias

additional mentions of it & other interesting stuff about the upcoming
documentary presentations & negotiations scheduled for next month etc
all under a looming negotiating deadline set for august
are given especially from the belizean point of view at
http://www.belize-guatemala.gov.bz/belize_position.html
&
http://www.belize-guatemala.gov.bz/press_releases/13-02-2001.html
&
http://www.belize-guatemala.gov.bz/press_releases/08-01-2001.html
&
http://www.belize-guatemala.gov.bz/time_line.html
including the news that the monument is of concrete
& was erected by a joint gbgt commission in 1931 or 1933 along with at
least a couple of mates
pursuant to but long after the delimitation treaty of 1859
which however was & were soon voided by guatemala in 1940
but the markers for which nevertheless the 2 bzgt countries have now agreed
to work together to relocate & reidentify & remap

& they seem pretty intent at this point

so conditions for a visit could be rapidly improving
