thanx to all for your thoughts & comments on this interesting
question of what we are about

we do have a highly unusual & potentially ambiguous situation
here
& i believe it is worth continuing to discuss & clarify it
until we all understand it as well as possible

the express focal topic of bp is
in a word
as you say brian
multipointing

not borders
as you started to say 2 messages & 2 minutes earlier
& as many members keep saying
nor even just the multipoints themselves
but multipointing
with an active verbal ending in ing
as performed by us actual pointers & bounders

so i am glad you so quickly corrected yourself
rather than repeating once again the common misapprehension
that bp is about borders
& i am glad you realized in the intervening message that borders
are not in fact why you are here
nor at all why some others of us are here
nor what our founding principle specifies
but again
it is multipointing

however
many members remain unaware of our principle
or else they deliberately disregard our principle
& they imagine the focal topic is something else
like borders
or misery
or conflict
etc etc etc
& they regale us constantly with their misapprehensions

of course they mean well
tho sometimes they do seem rather headstrong & belligerent
as if it were just our tough luck that they are so coarse &
insensitive
since we are positively committed to allowance
& are of such an everyonese persuasion
we will just have to accept whatever everyone is offering

& we remind them repeatedly to please just tell us what it is they
like about whatever offpoint topics they are raising
& why they like them
so we can at least do them the honor of trying out their chosen
playthings & giving them a chance to amuse us too

but often they neglect to clue us in & dont even notice that their
offerings seem or really are both pointless & tasteless

what they do apprehend is that something really special is going
on here
& naturally they very much want to partake of & participate in this
specialness
but they cant quite make the connection yet between our very
exacting topic & process
& the unusually keen fun we are having with it

so they postpone or completely dispense with the multipointing
& they try however ineptly & desperately to entertain or amuse
themselves & us by yakking just like one of the regular players
without ever really getting the point of what our playing & yakking
are really about

& there is sometimes even an edge of tedium & stridency as
near misses give way to far tangents & increasingly centrifugal
tendencies
while the dialog grows more associative & desultory with each
ensuing missed point

but fortunately there are the other lists & groups devoted to
border discussion & research
& clearly it is easy to start new groups for this or other new topics
especially if presented right here to our 180 member base

so there is really no need for such boorishness & stubbornness
to continue here indefinitely
when it could all be easily restarted or resumed somewhere
else

indeed an open casual border freak list named unmistakably
borderfreak or boundaryplace
or even boundaryplacepoint
may well be overdue

but we are already a fully dedicated & clearly constituted society
& i believe there is no reason nor call to abandon our principle
nor to change our focal point

at the same time
we are really very allowing & accepting of irrelevancy
so long as it is at all entertaining
because we are actually very congenial & fun loving anyway
& moreover we would like to give everyone a chance to get the
hang of what we are doing
even by the proxy of pointing at things that dont really qualify

but border miseries etc etc
like any other miseries
& even border misery news stories
have no standing at all here at bp
& are in fact 180 degrees offpoint
even if some people are in the habit of pointing at them
& of thinking them fun &or relevant to our topic
for they are actually neither

so everyone please just try multipointing if you havent yet
since i realize few members have actually done so
& i bet no one will regret it

or try pointing explicitly at anything amusing or bright instead
& i bet no one would even think of objecting
