The pictures shall have been taken on September 17th 1939 (17 wrzesien 39). This was just after August 23rd when the Hitler-Ribbentrop agreement was signed and after the German Sept. 1st. attack on Poland , but Lithuania was officially still no Soviet Republic. In 1941 Soviet Russia occupied Lithuania. Only in 1944 the Vilnius area was returned to (Soviet) Lithuania.
 
I guess this picture is taken at the present ltplru tripoint, but it is difficult to say as the picture is giving too little information. Anyhow the northern point was/is at the river bank, and should be visible at the picture.
 
But on March 21rd 1939 Lithuania after strong German pressure had to give up the Klaipeda area. Therefor this demarcation line (not border line!) might be in the present Western part. Anyhow some river bank or water should be visible...
