About 10 years ago, I stayed in the Welsh town of Montgomery which is
less than a mile from the border with England. As you may know,
Offa's Dyke (built by Mercian King Offa) forms a reasonable part of
the border between the two. As you walk along the main road going
west from Montgomery, the only visible evidence (at least that I was
aware of at the time) was a change in the road surface at the point
where Offa's Dyke crosses the road.
