the 1781 cession of the erie triangle by ny to the usa is what set the ny west boundary that way

which suggests either geographic ignorance or an uncertain frontier between ontario & ny at that time or perhaps both

& geowash sold the entire parcel to pa that way too in 1792

but ellicott did the survey work on it for the usa in 1790 & not during the war of 1812 as some believe

nor was the tall leaning monument near dry pan the one placed by ellicott there as some others believe but is recognizably a relic of the same 1880s nypa doings that left very similar witness rocks near njnypa & nysw & that other pane point on the delaware thus totalling 4 in all some of which you & some others here may also recognize by their distinctive appearance
