groundhog day yet again
at the next stop on the way down the amu darya
where the thalweg again survives from the afsu treaty
to carry in this case both aftm & afuz
& the topo again shows a dry intersoviet convergent
boundary
which is tmuz in this case but again very probably
undemarcated
http://mapy.mk.cvut.cz/data/Centr._Asia/Topo%20maps_500k/J-42-V.jpg

tmuz has at least been officially delimited tho
presumably in most places along the inherited lines
shown on the topo

but aftmuz includes a trick of nature & a bonus puzzle
besides

for tho it may take a while to realize when comparing
the satpic & topo
ultimately it is clear that the river has actually
relocated its entire bed quite some distance to the
south since soviet times
& thus well beyond the end of the preexisting tmuz
boundary

& this odd fact compounds the task of spotting it in
the satpic
into also extending it southward to its logical &
necessary conclusion
after all these years of following the retreating
river & thalweg

for just as aftm & afuz must have remained with the
thalweg on its sideways migration to the south
so the end of tmuz would have had to stretch somehow
so as to stay in communication with them & this mobile
tripoint

& btw
there is no evidence that an avulsion is treated any
differently than accretion on any of the afghan
borders

that is
the borders around here appear to always move with the
thalwegs
even if the changes are abrupt

the peculiar difficulty right here tho
as well as a useful clue
is that the terminal segment of tmuz as shown on the
topo is clearly not a geodetic line but rather appears
to follow some natural irregularly curvilinear feature
which can be spotted in the satpic
& indeed can be followed from the point where tmuz
crosses the river road down to the edge of the dry
former river bed
at least
if not beyond

however
since this boundary sector is evidently not geodetic
but natural
it has no established intermonumental sight line or
known bearing along which to simply keep prolonging
itself

so it is my belief & guess that it must simply have
chased after the thalweg by moving at right angles to
the river from its position in the old bed to a
corresponding position in the new one

& in view of all that
i have placed my aftmuz location guess
again at the little red square at the end of the
measurement line on the attachment
pretty much due douth of the former tripoint position
on the topo
