hot news of completion of corrected sawanabori of the
nile
http://www.itn.co.uk/news/index_2068754.html
presumably including a careful rwtzug visit
but with a puzzle or 2

for the nyungwe forest that is named by the reporter
as the source point isnt really 66 river miles above
lake victoria as claimed
but actually hundreds of air miles beyond that

oops

i do tend to trust everything else about the report
tho
based on this earlier notice of the expedition
http://www.ascendthenile.co.uk/expedition.html
in which the stated intention of ascending the kagera
is what alerted me to the fact that this truth head
party would necessarily visit rwtzug

aka the rwanda tanzania uganda tripoint

which is known to be at the thalweg junction of the
kakitumba with the kagera
per brownlie

this map suggests that the writer simply confused the
nyungwe forest
which is outlined in grayish green at dead center in
southwest rwanda
with another famous rwandan national park named
akagera
which is also shown in green outline
but in the necessarily correct location in
northeastern rwanda
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/mapcenter/map.aspx?TextLatitude=39.45&TextLongitude=-98.907&TextAltitude=0&TextSelectedEntity=39070&SearchEnc=false&MapStyle=Comprehensive&MapSize=Large&MapStyleSelectedIndex=0&searchTextMap=mont+luhonge&MapStylesList=Comprehensive&ZoomOnMapClickCheck=on

& the true nile source location 66 river miles from
lake victoria must be in the northernmost reaches of
that correct green outline
as you can see if you will pan east once

except
there is one more puzzle
for the kagera is known to continue falling from many
miles farther south than 66 river miles above victoria
http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/K/Kagera.asp

another oops perhaps
but i will reserve judgment on that one
for it could simply be a misprint for 166 or 266 or
something
placing the true source point that much farther south

of course i will be looking out now for the early
rushes from the expedition
not only for further clarification & more details of
their truly monumental discovery of the corrected
sawanabori point
but perhaps even more expectantly for any first word
or image of our virgin rwtzug tripoint
at the most significant confluence & moment of truth
en route to their river source target
