i added to the previously mentioned 5 point itinerary<br/>
a point on demd near sharptown md <br/>
a bit southeastward<br/>
where i wanted to examine if any tidewater crosses the<br/>
mason dixon line in the nanticoke river estuary<br/>
by which the penns might have claimed a technical<br/>
victory over the calverts<br/>

& i was quite pleased to be pointing so punctiliously<br/>
toward sharptown too<br/>
<br/>
& in my personal favorite state of md yet<br/>
<br/>
when i realized i had promised jc to drive her over to<br/>
her brothers in strasburg va<br/>
<br/>
where she is visiting now<br/>
<br/>
while i post this from the frederick county library<br/>
here in winchester<br/>
<br/>
having already scoured the stacks & woodwork &<br/>
basement for some mention of the northernmost point of<br/>
this county<br/>
<br/>
aka van <br/>
the northernmost point of virginia<br/>
<br/>
aka vawv3befrha <br/>
the tricounty point of frederick with berkeley &<br/>
hampshire counties of west virginia<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
so my sharpshooting for sharptown & the rest of the<br/>
itinerary i mentioned yesterday gets a perfect ass<br/>
backwards score of 180 degrees off target<br/>

& because nothing has been found here in the most<br/>
promising of the 3 county libraries for van<br/>
& in the largest of its 3 county seats <br/>
on a saturday<br/>
i now realize i must wait til monday to get at any<br/>
better records in any of the 3 county governments<br/>
<br/>
or yikes possibly even only in the state governments<br/>
<br/>
if anywhere<br/>
<br/>
for you recall the difficulty mike & i have had in<br/>
pinning this one down<br/>
& evidently for good reason<br/>
as it may technically be flapping in the wind<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
i can report i found the dates of the creation of the<br/>
2 geodetic convergents to the 3rd or cacapon ridge<br/>
line convergent<br/>
in 1772 & 1820 respectively<br/>
so there may be dated records defining these lines to<br/>
seek & find  <br/>
<br/>
& i can also report that there is at least a paper<br/>
topo in the library here from which geocoords could be<br/>
pulled sufficient to home in on the point with a<br/>
common gps receiver<br/>
presumably to within 100 feet of the best available<br/>
truth<br/>
whether one accepts the ridge triangulation station on<br/>
the topo as the definitive tripoint or simply as a<br/>
nearby point<br/>

but thats about all i can add to the try at this point<br/>
& so i will not be making a retry at this time<br/>
