one last scouring of the denj special masters report & referenced map exhibits has yielded nothing further
& thus completes my careful review of all the available materials
so a considerable mystery remains
& i will rest for now on my previous best guess
of a never actually explained but minimalist award
based perhaps on some unrecorded or still elusive advice of the special master to the court
but
while perusing the last of the denj materials this afternoon
i found an incredibly silly 1876 denj pact that actually caused these states to draw & monument jointly the impossibly difficult line to discern between delaware river & delaware bay
or in other words
to define & mark the corners of the mouth of the delaware river of all things
now isnt that too ridiculous to miss out on
since it has actually been legally done for us already
& all i need to do is go find the markers
so as soon as i post this
its off to the dimples of the delaware
for example
but let me also just try to complete the dc highlights for you before i do go
so per hodgkins 1893
there are no known ghost arc rock positions
& only 4 or 5 known or presumed positions of 1701 arc blazes
&
our kennett pennsbury hickory stump rock beauty
which supposedly marks the position of the westernmost known 1701 blaze
& therefore also the tip of the horn
a less infamous geometrical bedfellow of the wedge
about which more later
is not explained or even mentioned by hodgkins
btw
the skinny on hodgkins & mathews is that they are indeed the giants of depa & mdpa respectively
& together of demd as well
with hodgkins more the left brain heavy & mathews more the right
together they give all anyone ever wanted to know about greater demdpa
including the mason & dixon lines & all the arcs
excepting of course the lower denj arc
for example
i also learned the best guessed position of the original 1701 arc terminus
in what is today maryland yet
presenting yet another wild goose for me to chase on the way back to cream hill
not that there is even any hope of finding anything there
& of course all the exact data on everything else we have ever discussed about depa
like the rate of increase of the lengths of the radii west to east
& the true causes of its changes
& the directionality & sequence of all the surveys
etc
etc
the only blank not filled in being a date & other particulars on the kennett pennsbury rock
for it still remains a perfect mystery too
hodgkins indicates the original blazed hickory tree it purports to mark became a stump in his own recent memory
so the rock must be contemporaneous with him or later
but no data have been found on its origin anywhere
indeed there is an added puzzle here because the hickory tree was said to have been on a stream bank
but this supposed replacement rock is not
not a problem for hodgkins
since he doesnt mention the rock
my guess is that it was just the 2 pennsylvania townships that erected this marker
some time after 1893
& that it is obviously faux antique anyway
& possibly without any delawarean participation besides
so maybe i will look for the answer to that one next in the local kennett &or pennsbury libraries also
but anyway thats about it from here
