Hello,

Under "Files" I have posted a small excerpt from the
map "Mitteleuroppa nach dem 1. Weltkrieg" [Central Europe after the
1. World War]; Grosser historischer Weltatlas, III. Teil, Neuzeit;
Munich 1967.

(Picture name "Flaschenhals".)

The "Flaschenhals" or bottleneck is the red-striped part between
Koblenz (yellow-striped US-zone) and Wiesbaden (purple-striped French
zone). The legenda notes "Territories occupied after the conclusion
of the Treaty of Versailles, 1920-1925" for all these red-striped
territories.

From this map the zone appears to have been broad enough to contain
at least some road connections to the rest of Germany. OTOH one
should remember that this was a period of weak central government and
almost total anarchy in some parts of Germany.
