I fully agree, now, that the iron gate is just west of the Via del Mascherino.
The double arches that allow the Via Porta Angelica through the Passetto are
pictured in the third photo at www.geocities.com/Paris/Arc/5319/roma-c7.htm ,
but the fourth photo there shows a different pair of arches. Note the lack of
that building on top of the Passetto.
