Thanks again for your efforts on my behalf...A close look at
the "India" map in the "Hammond Citation" atlas (revised 2003)
clearly shows the island of "Anjidiv" located just to the south of
Goa and off the northern coast of Karnataka. It also clearly shows
that it is considered to be part of Daman-Diu,the 2 major units of
which are located a very substantial distance to the north (in the
Dadra-Nagar Haveli-Gujarat area) .An image search I did on Google
also showed a "map" that included the three parts ...Daman-Diu-
Anjidiv as 3 separate "insets" but my attempt to follow through on
this lead was thwarted by a dead link.I have, as you too evidently
have, uncovered VAST quantities of tantalizing historical data
about Anjidiv"s connection with Goa in the colonial period..My
concern is ...Which entity..Goa..or Daman-Diu actually has title to
the island NOW(2004)? I sent out emails to various Indian tourist
agencies etc. and received a reply(which i will attach after my
remarks) from someone representing Goa as the rightful claimant..but
the "tone" of the email is rather "defensive" almost as if the
matter had been decided against Goa and the email author is
attempting to take issue with the result...after all the Hammond
Citation indicates that Anjidiv, indeed, does belong to Daman-
Diu..in spite of it's relative proximity to Goa.Could it be that
when Goa-Daman-Diu was divided into two separate territories....Goa
AND Daman-Diu ..the island of Anjidiv was ,for whatever reason,
assigned to Daman-Diu in the face of obvious "geographical-
proximity' concerns on the part of Goa?? Muchas gracias otra vez por
su ayuda....raedwulf.

Yes Anjediv is legally still attached to Goa. To cede
a part of a territory requires an Act of Parliament.
It means that Parliament should vote for such an
Amendment in the Constitution ceding a part of its
land to another state or to create another entity.
This has yet not been done.

Considering that it is the Defence Ministry's
requirement this seems to have been overlooked by our
ex Parliamentarians but time and again writers like
the undersigned keep the authorities reminded on this
necessity.
