now and then I receive a letter from them, asking
me to pick a guidebook of my choice as a thank-you.

The innermost metre of a divided garage in Valga (Estonia)/Valka (Latvia) is in Latvia, a fact that gives the owners ample opportunity to go abroad without any border formalities.
