they may encounter a problem with the grandfathering here

if it had affected only hopkinton & north stonington
where there is very probably a long enough adverse possession
to easily satisfy the proverbial 9 tenths of the law
there might have been no problem at all

they could have just grandfathered those 22 acres as you
suggest

& that might still be the best & easiest resolution
assuming it is even possible to do just that & nothing else
which i doubt because everything is interconnected

& from the lack of commotion everywhere else along the line
it appears that the same unratified offset has run properly
unobserved all this time everywhere else from there to ctmari &
thus along the boundaries of about a dozen other towns
which seemingly arent & havent been involved in the
misapprehension at all & for which any change at this point
would represent an injustice & a disservice

so basically i think the states in their entirety & all the affected
towns with them will either have to adopt the 1941 resurvey in its
entirety or fall back to the previous & still legal 1840 survey in its
entirety
or in other words do nothing

& these states have been famous for foot dragging & having as
little as possible to do with each other & their border since 1703
whenever they are not overtly squabbling & arresting each other
so i think we can expect a long & drawn out continuation of the
same basic themes
