By the way, I should have been clear about something
plus I should have been read some other parts of the
supreme court case besides the history to answer my
points. The court case does mention jurisdictional
authority, but not truly separate from the idea of
sovereign authority. They mention that they retain
jurisdiction of the islands of Liberty and Ellis, plus
the islands on the New York Side of the water. As one
of my previous e-mail suggests, that I take to mean
that the same sovereignty holds for Ellis island as
the islands on New York side. I think the court would
have used different words for Ellis Island and the
islands on New York side if they were meant to have
different status, which they do not. They also
mention sovereign authority of New York quite a few
times. A line in the case specifically says the two
states agree that New York had obtained sovereign
authority of all the islands including Ellis Island.
Plus a decision on Arkansas vs Tennesse says that
sovereignty can be earned by long possession.
