Michael,
A long time ago I promised these pictures and
finally got around to get prints made from the
slides. The obelisk is 2 miles N of Pembina, ND
via an old road that parallels I29. The road
dead ends at the border near the monument. Clark
Hall and I were there Aug 25, 1988 to visit the
low point of ND which is where the Red R. flows
into Canada.
The monument is 1/8 mi. E of the Interstate and
about 1/4 mi. W of the river. There was the usual
no-mans land swath along the border but near the
river it was not cleared. In the picture of us
at the water's edge, if you look out in the river
the tripoint is in the middle even with where we
are standing. This is Manitoba-MN-ND or if you
prefer Canada-MN-ND. We didn't start the tri-points
project until 1990, so at that time we weren't
thinking about that.
