But what exactly is a native population? Anglo-Saxons are often considered
to be the native population of England, but they were preceded by the
Romans, Celts and Neolithic man (amongst others). They in turn, were partly
displaced by the Vikings and Normans.

In the Caribbean, the original Arawaks were displaced by the Caribs long
before the Europeans turned-up, and similar population changes happened in
the rest of the New World as well...

The notion of a nation state is a relatively recent one, and they're
largely artificial creations. People always seem to want to divide around
arbitrary lines, even if there's no real reason to do so. Even in the
smallest buildings, you find informal divisions forming around different
floors or wings, or even one side of a corridor or the other, and all
viewing each other with mutual suspicion ;-)
