the original partition of st martin was agreed upon in 1648 <br/>
when france got the lions share of the island<br/>
either because a frenchman won a walking contest<br/>
or because of a greater french naval presence<br/>

but the boundary was repeatedly violated from both sides<br/>
& the parts underwent 16 changes of flag involving 4 countries<br/>
spain & england having also gotten involved in the meantime<br/>
before the treaty of 1817 resettled everything once again<br/>
probably along much the same lines as the 1648 original <br/>
<br/>
but both treaties & their successors if any are playing hard to find<br/>
perhaps because they involve such a small & forgettable place<br/>
<br/>
i wonder if they are even included in the monster boundary treaty <br/>
encyclopedia<br/>

indeed this might be the ultimate test of just how comprehensive <br/>
its hundreds of volumes really are<br/>

i have my doubts tho i would like to be surprised<br/>
