 </span></blockquote>The question comes up in rec.travel.europe a lot. Where does this idea come from that everyone accepted US dollars? You can&#39;t spend dollars in shops outside of the USA, just as you can&#39;t spend Euros in American shops. Not even in former Eastern block countries (where Western currencies used to be welcome, but more likely DM than dollars), because the communist block doesn&#39;t exist now, and the local currencies can now buy the same consumer dreams as in the West. If you try to pay with dollars outside the US, all you get a blank stare and a polight request to pay in local currency. About the language ... many people in the world learn English, but once they visit the United States they&#39;ll learn that Americans don&#39;t. But you score a point for the hamburgers, McDonalds are ubiquitous around the world. Even though their product range has ethnical variations you don&#39;t find in their home country.<br/>
