I think the border control issue is becoming a dead
horse now, but what the hey...
Here is my editorial now -
I do agree with the idea that the whole idea of having
a not open border is bad, but it is wrong to think
only Canada should have this open border. A terrorist
will always look for a loophole. As long as the
Canadian border is open, they might have looked for
that loophole, but if it isn't, they will look for
another. Tougher border enforcement wouldn't help as
much as tougher law enforcement within any country.
People from all countries should be allowed to
entered, but closely monitored especially in their own
countries. The 9-11 terrorists weren't a problem when
they entered, but were a problem when they were
allowed to learn how to fly. And how exactly will
tougher immigration stop American muslims, many of
whom have nary an Arab ancestry, if they are
sympathetic to the terrorists. I believe the Buffalo
Cell had some who were only noticed because they
traveled to Afghanistan area.
The only person I know who have been affected by the
toughness is my boss, who has lived in this country
for seven years and from Armenia, not exactly known as
a terrorist country. He has not been able to take
business trips to Canada. Any closing of border will
harm business.
By the way, within a week of 9-11, there were protests
against America in Greece according to news. Greeks
aren't very friendly towards Americans, I would say.
Arif
