some of you may recall from message 760
this pic of the old brazilian witness monument overlooking arbruy
http://www.info.lncc.br/wrmkkk/13pinice.html

& judging from the position of the boat in the foreground
the photographer was evidently standing very near the shore
where the quarai meets the uruguai at the foot of ilha brasileira
so near & yet so far from the actual tripoint just behind him
yikes
& which was probably in clear view of the people in the photo
more yikes
as you may better visualize with the help of this detail map
http://www.info.lncc.br/wrmkkk/umap3.html

so for years now i have been looking for the elusive picture of
what those folks actually saw over the photographers shoulders
so as to complete what should probably have been
for them at least
an easy class c or d visit

or perhaps it was even a class b visit if they tried with the boat
rather than the impressive but still elusive class e visit shown

but failing that
any longer range or even an aerial view of the river confluence
would still have completed my own virtual journey
at least until something better came along
for we are always improving upon everything here anyway

well imagine my delight when i finally found this pic today
http://okapi.com.ar/alternativas.htm
purporting to be just such an aerial view of the triple frontier
& appearing within the context of an ad for an airplane excursion
over the tricountry area
& seeming very much to provide a first actual glimpse of the tp

but then
when i compared the pic to the detail map linked above
just to make sure it was what it claimed to be
well you can see for yourself
the view is not of the correct confluence at all
but rather only of the cross channel above the head of the island
rather than where the 2 thalwegs really converge below it

so another false claim bites the dust
& again here we are so near & yet so far
but in fact not really so near as before
