we have looked at this both ways at various times
since eezs are territories in which sovereign rights do exist
& even the supposedly full sovereignty of territorial seas is less
comprehensive than that of dry land
given the diminishments of innocent passage etc
with all this in mind
in the early days of bp
i was considering & collecting & promoting only the eez tripoints
then martin pratt pointed out just what you are saying hereabove
so i soon switched my focus to only the territorial sea tripoints
then grant showed up & started collecting the eez tripoints again
i think with good reason
having by then done it both ways myself
so by now i have stopped shilly shallying
& prefer to recognize both types for what they are
sovereign tripoints on the one hand
& sovereign rights tripoints on the other
there could be other gradations at various distances from land
as you have pointed out here & elsewhere
but these 2 seem most clear cut
besides they represent the maximum & minimum landward
penetration of the high seas
or what we like to call everyones land
but that is a different & longer story
for which you may want to check grants files by that name
anyway i would say that the 2 sorts have made for us very
convenient rather than strange bedfellows

yes but then they get negotiated down to bipartitie & multipartite
agreements just as sovereign territorial claims do
& given the presence of all the islands in the eastern gulf of
finland
it seems likely that the 3nm & 12nm claims based on them
could well meet in a single negotiated tripoint one day
or perhaps even more than 1
tho i cant confirm this with my crude maps
also bear in mind
the worlds first few maritime sovereign territorial tripoints have
only been coming into being in very recent times
& the process is evidently gaining momentum
so there are still a lot of tripoints just raring to be formally created
tripoints of both kinds
in the meantime the default principle of equidistance has served
us well in both cases
at least for general & theoretical observation
