gemarkeerd&quot; (P. Spapens, K. van Kemenade). The story is situated at <br/>
the Dutch-German border crossing Siebengewald - Gaesdonk (the German-<br/>
sounding name is a Dutch village, the Dutch-sounding name a German <br/>
village):<br/>

&quot;When the customs office went back to a regime of limited opening <br/>
hours, signs had to be put op to make it clear in two languages that <br/>
only citizens living in a 15 kilometre radius from the border <br/>
crossing could use it when the office was closed. A customs officer <br/>
was putting up the Dutch-made signs. He took a step backwards to <br/>
admire his achievement. A German passer-by looked over his shoulder <br/>
to the text and remarked mockingly: &quot;Es sind ja saemtliche Fehler <br/>
darin&quot; (&quot;But it is full of mistakes&quot;). And indeed: no less than seven <br/>
linguistic mistakes were in the text. The sign was quickly removed.&quot;<br/>

You would think that at least letting a text like that be checked by <br/>
a colleague from the other side wouldn&#39;t be too much to ask.<br/>

As for Engrish: Yes, a source of fun, especially for me, having <br/>
worked in a Japanese company where the company language was English. <br/>
One of the better ones that I remember was a list of English words <br/>
that had to be used in a text. The caption read: Grossaly.<br/>

On the other hand: luckily I wasn&#39;t asked to write anything in <br/>
Japanese...<br/>
