I have got an answer from the Bodoe police confirming that Jan Mayen is a part of the Schengen area, but foreigners must apply for permission to land. The station commander of Jan Mayen has police and sheriff authority and is carrying out passport controll.

Vilnius, Lithuania

Vennlig hilsen

Gustav Kaald Olsen

lensmann-og forv.sjef

The Nordic Passport Union of July 12th 1957 is not valid in Faroe Is., Greenland, Svalbard Is. and Jan Mayen Is.

Jan Mayen seems to be a part of Schengen, but has special regulations regarding travel to and labour on the island.
