I've come by this Olivenza thing a couple of times now, and it is an
interesting case. Still, it doesn't seem to play a big role in
international politics, although these "Friends" of this city (a
Portuguese pression group called Grupo dos Amigos de Olivença - I
think you're a member of them, aren't you?) would very much like it
to become one. It looks a bit like these British towns or islands
that find themselves at war with the Netherlands after three or four
centuries, because everyone forgot that there was one. Now this
comparison isn't fair to the extent that Portugal never conceded
Olivenza being part of Spain, but on the other hand they haven't done
a lot to defend their claim either, in spite of their claim looking
very legitimate. And the citizens of the town would in majority want
to remain Spanish subjects. A transfer of Olivenza to Portugal
against the wishes of the majority of its citizens is not very nice...
