Last week I visited my first international tripoint. And my second and
third! First was Monday, June 3, the "Dreilandenpunt" where the
Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany meet near Aachen. Well-developed for
tourism! A pleasant surprise was that the highest point in the
Netherlands also is there, not at the identical point but about 30 meters
northwest. 322.5 m.

On Tuesday, I visited BEDELU. Well-documented in BoundaryPoint postings
July 6, 2001. An interesting aspect, however, was that the site is
well-documented with signs, maps, and photos, none of which mentioned the
'fact' that the river Our here is said to be in condominium or joint
sovereignty between DE and Luxembourg downstream from the 'tri' point.
All the signs show a "normal" tri-point in the middle of the river.
We'll see if my photos of the site and the sign turn out.

Farther downstream later that day, I visited the place where the river
Sure/Sauer meets the Moselle at Wasserbillig. Here the condominum is well
documented on the ground and on the signs. As the road bridge crosses the
western shore of the Sauer, there is a plaque with a line with the
Luxembourg crest on the west side and two crests on to the east of the
line: Luxembourg, and the German state of Rheinland-Pzalz. AT the eastern
end of the bridge, another such plaque with the two crests on the west
(river) side and just the Rheinland-Pzalz crest to the east. An
interpretative sign with a map shows international boundaries along both
banks of the Sauer, then rnning across the Moselle in line with the left
bank of the Sauer, and then up both banks of the Moselle.

Finally, on Wednesday morning, the DEFRLU tripoint. No documentation or
touristic stuff here at all, but there was a prominent monument to the
signing of the Schengen treaty on a boat moored very near the tripoint. On
the highway bridge over the Moselle, which is still in condominium between
DE Germany and Luxembourg according to the map
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BoundaryPoint/files/delu/defrlu.jpg)
the signage just marks a Germany-Luxembourg boundary at the middle of the
bridge.

An interesting area!
