Act of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 8 May, 1998, No. 223<br/>
<br/>
On the ratification of the agreement between the government of the <br/>
Republic of Kazakhstan and the government of the Republic of <br/>
Uzbekistan on the use of certain stretches of roads for automobile <br/>
traffic.<br/>

<br/>
1st Article<br/>
The stretch of automobile road between Džetysaj and Èardara, with a <br/>
length of 24.5 kilometres, going through the territory of the <br/>
Republic of Uzbekistan, with a sanitary-guarded zone of 30 metres on <br/>
both sides of the edge of the traffic surface of the road, is given <br/>
in temporary use to the Republic of Kazakhstan for the duration of <br/>
ten years, on a gratis base (free of payment). The given stretch of <br/>
automobile road runs along the western bank of the Èardara reservoir <br/>
from the state boundary between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the <br/>
Republic of Uzbekistan, in the area west of the village of Machtaly, <br/>
in a general north-easterly direction through the village of Arsanaj, <br/>
along the dyke of the Arsanaj fault in the north-west to the state <br/>
boundary between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of <br/>
Uzbekistan.<br/>

2nd Article<br/>
The stretch of automobile road between Syrdar&#39;ja and Džizak with a <br/>
length of 24.3 kilometres with a sanitary-guarded zone of 30 metres <br/>
on both sides of the edge of the traffic surface of the road, going <br/>
through the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is given in <br/>
temporary use to the Republic of Uzbekistan for the duration of ten <br/>
years, on a gratis base (free of payment). The given stretch of the <br/>
main automobile road M39 Almaty – Biškek – Taškent – Termez runs from <br/>
the state boundary between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the <br/>
Republic of Uzbekistan in the area north-east of the village of <br/>
Machtažan, in a general south-westerly direction towards the state <br/>
boundary between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of <br/>
Uzbekistan in the area of the village of Celinnoe.<br/>
<br/>
3rd Article<br/>
The Parties pledge not to conduct the building of objects for any <br/>
purpose whatsoever in the sanitary-guarded zones, as stipulated in <br/>
the 1st and 2nd articles of the present Agreement.<br/>
The Parties assure to one another the conditions, that enable the <br/>
free transit of passengers and cargo on the stretches of automobile <br/>
road, as described in the 1st and 2nd articles of the present <br/>
Agreement.<br/>

4th Article<br/>
The present Agreement may be amended and added to with the agreement <br/>
of the Parties, which will be put down in a protocol, which forms an <br/>
inalienable part of the present Agreement.<br/>
