scoop on the US nautical mile.<br/>
In 1929 a conference in Monaco defined the &quot;international nautical<br/>
mile&quot; as *exactly* 1852m. In 1954, this measurement was adopted by the<br/>
US, but for ready reference the exact figure in metres was converted<br/>
to feet, with the decimals extended as far as anyone felt it necessary<br/>
to go: 6076.11549ft, rounded to the nearest couple of microns.<br/>
So exact metres, approximate feet.<br/>
Now we can all rest easy.<br/>
