<div id="ygrps-yiv-1694292019">As you know, the enclave of Llivia is connected to Spain by a neutral <br/>
road, under frech soverignity. This road ( the N-152 road, named CD-68 <br/>
while runs into the frech territory ), just after crossed the border at <br/>
the “pont de Llívia” ( The bridge of Llívia”) over the Raür river, <br/>
crossed a railway and the RN-20 french highway. It was a very dangerous <br/>
point, and many accidents occured there. The french athorities ordered <br/>
in  1971 to install traffic signals that gave preference to the RN-20 <br/>
over the CD-68. The villagers of Llívia considered that it was a <br/>
alteration of the Pyrenees treaty terms, and the stop signs <br/>
were “stoled”. From april, 16th to may 6th, the signs were replaced and <br/>
removed daily. It was the “war of stop signs”. Most of the spanish and <br/>
french newspapers tribute their headlines to this conflict. The spanish <br/>
government wanted to install traffic lights, but the villagers of <br/>
Llívia didn’t accept. The french authorities changed the stop signs <br/>
by “yield” signs, but the problem remained unsolved. Finally, the <br/>
diplomatic negotiations began and in 1978 both countries signed a <br/>
treaty in order to build a new bridge over the river, the railway and <br/>
the french road. The bridge, payed by the Spain government despite is <br/>
in french zone, was opened to traffic in 1983. Curiosly, 30 years later <br/>
the same problem appeared again: the road of Llívia ( CD-68) cross <br/>
another french road ( D-30 ) just before the enclave border. The <br/>
accidents were usual, too, and France wished to build a “rotunda” at <br/>
this point. The villagers of Llívia protested, but, the common sense <br/>
won and the rotunda was opened last summer(2001).<br/>
