mdva evidently runs along the low water mark of the potomac<br/>
but dcva runs along the high water mark<br/>
<br/>
this inconsistency in itself doesnt affect the position of either dcmdva <br/>
tripoint<br/>
tho it evidently means the dcmdvan tee leg actually points upstream<br/>
rather than back across the river toward dc as previously believed<br/>
<br/>
also realized in the process<br/>
the tiny area of the potomac gained by virginia from dc circa 1940 when <br/>
dcmdvas was moved from the dc initial monument out into the river in order <br/>
to conform with the pierhead alignment<br/>
  see topozone<br/>
is in fact the only area of the potomac ever owned by virginia<br/>
& contradicts the royal charter of 1632 that gave the entire potomac to md<br/>
<br/>
also found on p90<br/>
a strikingly odd & unsubstantiated remark that mdva follows the low water <br/>
mark of the potomac ok<br/>
but only from headland to headland<br/>
rather than continuously as previously believed<br/>
<br/>
usgs mapping does not depict it that way tho<br/>
<br/>
if true however this revelation could affect the supposed positions of both <br/>
mdvawv & dcmdvan<br/>
neither of which has yet been absolutely pinpointed on the ground anyway<br/>
