What a coincidence, last saterday we walked that road as part of the project of photographing all the appr. 800 bordermarkers between Germany and the Netherlands.
My remarks:
1. the actual stretch of the 'borderroad' is between bordermarkers 263 and 267. Peter's scan seems to indicate that only a part of the road is shared as a neutral road (where the border is shown in a jigsaw-manner).
2. most of the border markers are doubleplaced: on each side of the road one. This stretch is larger than indicated on Peter's scan ("Gpn is the plural of border marker, meaning that two markers are placed on either roadside).
3. we've encountered this on more places along the DeNl border: a road forming the border with markers on either side. So probably there are more of such 'neutral roads'.
4. the enclosed scan is from a photocopy of the 1:25.000 official maps. The thick black line makes it unclear but indicates for me which part of the border we've "done". I'm sure my dutch fellows have better scans available.
5. Peter's place (a farm called Heringshof, "Herings farm") to be seen next to gp 268

vriendelijke groet,  Eef Berns

Dear boundary fellows,
attached pls find map and 2 pictures
from an interesting spot at the Dutch-
German border north of Brunssum
(15 km N of Aachen) - a socalled
"Neutral Road" forming the border...
between boundary markers 260or
261 (1.picture) and b.m. 266 (2.pic)
I wonder about the jurisdiction - who's
the authority at this place, if anything
happens ...
notice also the drawing of the boundary
line on the map - it's a German "ADAC
Stadtatlas Aachen/Lüttich(Liège)-Maast-
richt", scale 1: 20.000.
Definitely a target for September's GCEBE!
Personal remark: it's MY place: Herings-
bosch (-wald/-forest)
Does any of our dear Dutch BP-members
have a topomap of this area???
Regards
Peter Hering
PS: attachments sent in 2 mails...
