then i too would rest easily with the position<br/>
indicated & reiterated<br/>

it is reported by the ibs that <br/>
at least in the case of the least navigable of these 3<br/>
convergent thorofares<br/>
namely the rio negro<br/>
which carries bopy<br/>
the border in it does follow the thalweg<br/>
<br/>
& tho not universal in latin america<br/>
this is the general rule with the big rivers there<br/>
as with highly navigable rivers everywhere<br/>
<br/>
so there is at least good reason to assume that the<br/>
borders in the rio paraguai do the same thing as the<br/>
one in its rio negro tributary<br/>
& that all 3 therefore converge at their thalweg<br/>
junction <br/>
rather than necessarily at midstream<br/>
<br/>
& tho i dont presume to know how to read thalwegs from<br/>
satpics<br/>
the particular configuration of this confluence seems<br/>
to me to make for a much lower tripoint position<br/>
<br/>
indeed i cant visualize the rio negro at all hanging<br/>
such a hard left as this into the teeth of the much<br/>
more powerful rio paraguai<br/>
<br/>
let alone at a point where the paraguai is itself<br/>
hanging a hard left<br/>
<br/>
quite the contrary<br/>
<br/>
my minds eye wants them to merge here very gradually<br/>
indeed<br/>
<br/>
perhaps even imperceptibly & therefore only<br/>
hypothetically<br/>
