there is good authority for the midstream borderbase
pushpin position
http://www.info.lncc.br/wrmkkk/bo3dd.html

& if the 3 convergent borders were known to follow the
median lines of their respective rivers
then i too would rest easily with the position
indicated & reiterated

however
it is reported by the ibs that
at least in the case of the least navigable of these 3
convergent thorofares
namely the rio negro
which carries bopy
the border in it does follow the thalweg

& tho not universal in latin america
this is the general rule with the big rivers there
as with highly navigable rivers everywhere

so there is at least good reason to assume that the
borders in the rio paraguai do the same thing as the
one in its rio negro tributary
& that all 3 therefore converge at their thalweg
junction
rather than necessarily at midstream

& tho i dont presume to know how to read thalwegs from
satpics
the particular configuration of this confluence seems
to me to make for a much lower tripoint position

indeed i cant visualize the rio negro at all hanging
such a hard left as this into the teeth of the much
more powerful rio paraguai

let alone at a point where the paraguai is itself
hanging a hard left

quite the contrary

my minds eye wants them to merge here very gradually
indeed

perhaps even imperceptibly & therefore only
hypothetically

hence the attached best guessed tripoint stretching
diagram
made with the best locally grown latex & other veggies
