poignant comment
regardless of what this ultimately measurable distance proves to be
if anyone can ever get down into the gorge & eyeball across the brook from rock number 1
up to rock number 2 while extending a retractable tape measure out to midstream chit
preferably some time when the brook is way down
since we know rivular borders move about a bit
& they do so not only because creeks & rivers are alive
but they also move about from thalwegs on navigable streams to middles of nonnavigable
ones back to thalwegs again for perfectly dry ones

so we should pick a most propitious moment to mount or rather drop the expedition

for compared to arbica
arcalu will be a real tape measure job
