actually it turns out maungapohatu is a named summit
point after all
which accordingly must stand out from the ridge line
in the pix
& which is clearly indicated on this excellent
zoomable topo
compliments of arif
http://www.nztopoonline.linz.govt.nz/website/nztmtopo/viewer.htm
at an elevation of about 1370 meters

& you can have the prolonged pleasure of getting there
in no fewer than 11 consecutive point&clicks
if you just keep homing in at roughly s38d35m x
e177d07m

once there
you will probably see immediately that the summit
clearly corresponds to the high point atop the
escarpment in the center middleground of this pic
http://www.ngaituhoe.com/Maungapohatu_q.jpg
which is identified on the topo as the huiarau range

the pic faces east

the encarta map
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/mapcenter/map.aspx?TextLatitude=39.45&TextLongitude=-98.907&TextAltitude=0&TextSelectedEntity=39070&SearchEnc=false&MapStyle=Comprehensive&MapSize=Large&MapStyleSelectedIndex=0&searchTextMap=maungapohatu&MapStylesList=Comprehensive&ZoomOnMapClickCheck=on
suggests the bpgi & bphb borders both follow the ridge
line
& gihb is made to look like a geodesic line
terminating at the peak
tho it is noteworthy that the locality indicated as
maungapohatu there looks to be about 700 meters
northeast of the tripoint

so we are already looking at a rather loose class d
visit here
rather than merely an indiscriminate class e

a second zoomable topo from the same source
http://www.wherearewe.co.nz/newzealand.html
offers the similarly prolonged yet novel thrill of
navigating to the same place by feeling & dragging
ones way to the above geocoords by means of the
response on the screen to the movement of ones mouse

& in this case the elevation is even specified as 1366
meters
& the coords as exactly s38d35m03s x e177d07m21s
but again the regional borders arent shown

however
as you too will see if you try
the maungapohatu locality & the summit point are
depicted here a few hundred meters apart
somewhat tho not exactly as shown by encarta

on the third zoomable topo try
https://www.nabis.govt.nz/nabis_prd/map.jsp
& again with lots of patience
we finally hit pay dirt on the regional boundaries
& they prove to be exactly as expected

ridge line & geodetic with summit trijunction

the peak is usually fogged in
rarely visited
& sacred to the maori
who maintained a utopian community & made their last
stand here in 1916 led by a famous prophet king named
rua

according to one source
the sense of spirituality in the neighborhood even
today is dense enough to reach out & touch
