Nice call, Bwana! And the Dutch do say they got close.
You can squeeze a bit more detail out of both Multimap
and (better yet) Encarta:
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/mapcenter/map.aspx?TextLatitude=39.45&TextLongitude=-98.907&TextAltitude=0&TextSelectedEntity=39070&SearchEnc=false&MapStyle=Comprehensive&MapSize=Large&MapStyleSelectedIndex=0&searchTextMap=niji&MapStylesList=Comprehensive&ZoomOnMapClickCheck=on
. . . (which lets you then zoom in three more times).
Both of these sources show the presumably pictured
road passing thru Guinea-Bissau (and its isolated
tripoint corner village of Niji), and indicate that
the tripoint lies about a mile east of this road at
its closest point (a possibly uncontrolled GWSN
crossing, since only the much more distant Massirah
border post on GNGW is mentioned -- not only by these
Dutch but by some recent Italians too). Both Brownlie
and the IBS numbers (95, 141 & 142) indicate that the
tripoint is marked by a 1906 FRPT Boundary Pillar
Number 58. Neither expedition appears to mention
looking for or finding it. --Jimi
