the focal point of this interesting history of the
events leading up to the creation of what is today
egly
http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2000/510/chrncls.htm
is that the original 1925 egit agreement that
established this border has never been ratified by an
egyptian parliament
however the ibs here
http://www.law.fsu.edu/library/collection/LimitsinSeas/IBS061.pdf
does indicate on pdf page 4 that this treaty was
ratified by the egyptian government
on 7 july 1932
& i dont think we need to detain ourselves over
whether the nature of the ratification or
participation matters to the try
but in any case the article makes it apparent that
britain was not legally or directly involved in the
egit agreements of 1925 & 1926 which first delimited
this boundary & then clarified it & set up its first
demarcation commission
this is the one that erected all but 9 of the 187
known egly markers reported by the ibs
& that delivered its report in april 1927
& a careful review of the ibs after reading the above
article suggests that this commission report is the
right place to look for the datum spec rather than
expecting it in either of the agreements
since the delineations in both texts are still in
rather crude & general terms
& there is no indication that any maps ever
accompanied them
so it seems the trail to eglysd will lead thru some
government archive in cairo or perhaps tripoli
or maybe even still rome
but at this point not so likely london any more
probably worth waiting for both mohamed & brownlie
before proceeding further tho
