As expected. Totally wrong. The summit of Dufourspitze is the highest point in Switzerland, and a purely Swiss summit, although the Italian border is only 150 metres to the East.

I would have expected they say at least Mt Blanc; this would have repeated the common, "usual" error. But,... BUT! I have to be careful here. Only French maps show the summit of Mt Blanc to be entirely French; Italian maps - if detailed enough - often show the border run directly over the summit - in that case the view that Mt Blanc would be the highest Italian would be correct.

While the French take the issue very seriously, the Italians don't seem really to care, and so the French view has most credit: The highest point of Italy is the summit of Mt Blanc de Courmayeur with or the point on the Bosses ridge of Mt Blanc where the French/Italian border leaves the ridge to encircle the summit calotte and make it completely French. The decision between the two latter options is still awaited. One would need a precision nivellement.

What does the Hammond Atlas say about Vatican?

According to the Hammond World Atlas the highest poit of Italy is Dufourspitze (4.634 metres) which sounds a bit Germanic, presumably because it´s on the Swiss border.   Roger.
