Usually such compendiums are utterly wrong in tricky questions such as highest points of Vatican or SM as you say, but also Italy, for example. I wonder whet The Hammond World Atlas has to say about the highpoint of Italy.

I hoped to find such answers in my copy of The Hammod World Atlas, a 1989 paperback version of which I obtained from Newsweek, and which contains such useful information about most countries but not alas for San Marino or Vatican City!    Roger.
