ADFR on the N22 is about 3-4 km from the border inside France near the junction with the N320. Means that the long queues returning from their duty free shopping trips in Andorra don't have to wait in the "Tunel d'Envalira".

I have never experienced it on the FRCH.

I have seen checkpoints far (not 10- 20 km ) in mountainous areas in the Balkans, also also in western Europe were the physical conditions makes control near the border difficult. I plan to cross ITFR in the Tende tunnel in a few weeks, and expect to see the control (or the remains) in open air.

I also believe in e.g. the Sahara dessert that due the remoteness you will find checkpoints far from the actual border.

Perhaps some of you can help me.

I understand that on the Mexican side of the USMX border, the Mexicans
do another customs and immigration check 10- 20 km south of the border
area.

In and around Geneva , Switzerland , does France conduct secondary
checks several km beyond the actual FRCH border?

Are there any other countries that have places where they conduct
border checks several km from the border?
