the puzzle in a nutshell til now
as you may recall it developed thru the message
sequence below
was
by what route does the new greene wilson county line
that follows the centerline of contentnea creek shown

manage to reach the northeast corner of wayne county
as also shown
& the attached details from the plat that just arrived
here on cream hill reveal the shocking fact that no
extra stitch was necessary after all
for the simple reason that the creek centerline has
itself displaced as far as the wayne county line
during the course of the past century
& so the new grwawi tripoint stands not at the old
corner as expected but rather at the unmarked or
computed point cp shown clearly in the second
attachment
in fact some 400 feet south of the old corner
& no real problem so far
since the change was supposedly just between wilson &
greene counties anyway
but the plat also clearly shows wayne county as having
lost its northeast corner entirely to wilson county
owing to the change in the course of the creek
& or to the change in greene wilson
yikes
& how can this be
for whether the creek has moved by accretion or
avulsion
it was never a part of the wayne wilson county line
which has consisted since 1902 only of geodetic lines
at this corner
& thus the change in the position of the creek should
not have caused any displacement of that corner
boundary
at first i thought wayne county might simply have
agreed to this change with wilson for the sake of
convenience
& that may indeed somehow yet prove to be the case
but the plat indicates that resolutions for the
boundary change were signed by the boards of
commissioners only of wilson & greene counties
but not of wayne county
the plat also states
even more strangely
that the acreage was ceded from wilson to greene co
rather than vice versa
as we know was in fact the case
& mentions no cession nor acreage at all from wayne to
wilson
so actually that makes at least 3 yikes in all
admittedly none having to do with the tripoint
location
which i consider fully resolved to my satisfaction
but once again i will be on the horn first thing
monday morning
this time from idle curiosity alone rather than
tripointing necessity
& to the wayne county government in goldsboro
to find out if they even have any idea if & what they
have lost
