as well as the fulcrum of her familiar triangular<br/>
southeast projection<br/>
which originally comprised in its entirety the first<br/>
of at least 4 known halfbreed tracts<br/>

this tract is fully but barely enclosed in the above<br/>
topo frame<br/>

there was also a sioux halfbreed tract elsewhere in<br/>
iowa <br/>
& a nemaha halfbreed tract in nebraska <br/>
& a kansas halfbreed tract in kansas<br/>
& perhaps others<br/>
<br/>
but this original nominally sac & fox halfbreed tract<br/>
extended from iailmo up the mississippi river to fort<br/>
madison<br/>
at upper right<br/>
as well as up the des moines river as far as the north<br/>
line of missouri<br/>
just visible at upper left<br/>
& was closed on the north by a northward drifting<br/>
eastward projection of the missouri north line partly<br/>
shown in red at the top of the frame<br/>
& indicated there as the old indian treaty boundary <br/>

the iailmo tripoint herself was a little challenging<br/>
to get at<br/>
<br/>
we put in on the illinois side at bottom frame a good<br/>
distance below mud island & had to paddle hard to even<br/>
reach its lower tip<br/>

& backed up by the mouth of the des moines at left<br/>

the pic in the second attachment is of jc facing up<br/>
the mississippi from the tripoint location itself as<br/>
determined from the topo<br/>
so more or less class b<br/>
but it was hard to say precisely<br/>
as we struggled with the wind & current & dodged river traffic<br/>
