7try weekend in the berkshires <br/>
& also to prepare to revisit pittsfield for the<br/>
necessary border bible consultation mentioned in my<br/>
previous report <br/>
before deciding to either resume or abandon my overall<br/>
berkshire perfection ensemble try<br/>
& <br/>
while we also continue to wait expectantly for any<br/>
word from gseebe & the other actually multidimensional<br/>
tries that are believed to be possibly even<br/>
simultaneously in progress<br/>
& or any proxy or surrogate quests in progress for<br/>
that matter too<br/>
it is my extreme pleasure to try to recount to you as<br/>
fully as possible the tries jc & i made for the<br/>
hinsdale peru windsor tripoint only yesterday<br/>
& for the twice previously promised dalton hinsdale<br/>
washington tripoint on the day before <br/>

& since dahiwa is already showing signs of improving<br/>
with age<br/>
& since freshness of reportage is otherwise generally<br/>
to be favored<br/>
i will begin with hipewi<br/>

from where you may recall i promptly flashed only<br/>
yesterday this attached pic of jc physically<br/>
reconstructing the lost & dilapidated & likely<br/>
forgotten monument<br/>

the try began from new salem in light rain<br/>
with the overriding & overweening ambition of<br/>
following hipewi directly with dapiwa lepiwa lepiri &<br/>
hapiri <br/>
& of thus bringing the overall berkshire try up to<br/>
halftime with a score of 22 down & 5 up with 17 left<br/>
for 44 right<br/>
<br/>
& the first order of play was to try to banish or<br/>
somehow compensate for the gloomy & increasingly moist<br/>
prevailing conditions<br/>
which you may also recall included the already ominous<br/>
necessity of at least checking out the potentially &<br/>
now actually show stopping hapiri wetpoint or<br/>
softpoint<br/>
<br/>
but the approach to hipewi necessarily included<br/>
waterproofing the sortie with whatever plastic &<br/>
headgear we could<br/>
& just hoping my regular slogging moccasins would hold<br/>
up <br/>
etc<br/>
which they soon didnt<br/>
<br/>
but we sallied forth from the truck into the rain<br/>
merrily enough at the 614m elevation point on crane<br/>
road indicated on the above topo about 3quarters of a<br/>
mile nw of the objective<br/>
<br/>
& we hiked south on the 4wd trail<br/>
past its barricaded intersection with the other 4wd<br/>
trail shown<br/>
& straight on up the hill while absorbing a good deal<br/>
of moisture<br/>
& hoping almost against hope in such wilderness that<br/>
the hiwi town line might be blazed & viable<br/>
<br/>
& on both the exact pace count & topological match<br/>
point we found to our surprise & delight an even more<br/>
heavily festooned lead line than we had any reason to<br/>
expect<br/>
comprising 3 distinct sorts of very insistent traces<br/>
<br/>
so it was immediately off into fairly impenetrable &<br/>
exceedingly juicy woods<br/>
where after many fits & starts but at approximately<br/>
the correct pace count the blazes crescendoed &<br/>
suddenly stopped at a humble modern concrete marker<br/>
with red herring inscription dwd or something<br/>
which i imagined meant dalton water district<br/>
or maybe it was pwp<br/>
for peru something or other<br/>
but not really a satisfactory 3town rock in the grand<br/>
berkshire tradition<br/>

& it reminded me disturbingly of the not very serious<br/>
pseudo lerist marker which you may recall only<br/>
momentarily distracted & slowed me down a couple of<br/>
weeks ago less than halfway on a supposed lead line to<br/>
the objective in that case<br/>
<br/>
but in this case the blazes stopped in the right<br/>
general neighborhood<br/>
& i like to imagine the rock was slightly more<br/>
plausible too<br/>
& my slippers & feet were already somewhat in tatters<br/>
so i popped the camera on yet another marker not<br/>
worthy of your attention<br/>
hahaha<br/>
i am almost ashamed to say<br/>
hahahahaha<br/>
& was ready to call it a day & hobble barefoot back to<br/>
the truck<br/>
hahaha<br/>
when jc <br/>
who had been wondering & studying how i sometimes do<br/>
manage to pull a stunning old monument out of<br/>
apparently thin air<br/>
said<br/>
wait<br/>
youre not turning back now<br/>
for she knew my pace count wasnt overgenerous<br/>
& i looked at her like <br/>
gimme a break <br/>
thats the freakin rock<br/>
& she said<br/>
i am going to look a short distance ahead anyway<br/>
& i said be my guest<br/>
as i rested there uneasily on my supposed laurels<br/>
& waited impatiently for her to complete her presumed<br/>
folly<br/>
when she called back from about 50 yards into the<br/>
gloomy woods<br/>
ive got it<br/>
better come on & get it<br/>
<br/>
so i hobble assed on over there<br/>
& sure enough <br/>
an undressed 18th century beauty stuck between a<br/>
couple of trees that were uprooting & overturning &<br/>
fracturing her<br/>
<br/>
& jc pointed first to the h for hinsdale chiseled near<br/>
the base of one of the triangular faces & to the w for<br/>
windsor chiseled near the base of another & then<br/>
picked up a loose fragment containing the letter p for<br/>
peru which in the pic she is fitting back into the<br/>
mother rock at the base of the third face<br/>
<br/>
btw it is generally a good policy to restore<br/>
monumentation as much as reasonably possible & resist<br/>
the temptation to take souvenirs<br/>
hahahaha<br/>
<br/>
& i should probably add at this point that in a way i<br/>
wasnt all that astonished either by this otherwise<br/>
truly remarkable discovery<br/>
because jc aka janey styles herself as the<br/>
reincarnation of sacajawea too<br/>
& i had a hunch i was playing the sap in this scenario<br/>
from the start anyway<br/>
<br/>
& then i noticed we were in a completely undisturbed &<br/>
especially dark & thick little copse there generally<br/>
surrounded by slightly more open woods<br/>
& that indeed none of the 3 distinct sorts of bright<br/>
festoons & blazes we had been following for more than<br/>
half a mile had continued past the pseudo hipewi<br/>
marker that had fooled me <br/>
& nothing but gloom penetrated into the copse <br/>
as you can see in the pic<br/>
<br/>
so i have to imagine that the true hipewi may have<br/>
eluded at least some of the blazermakers too <br/>
& been truly lost in action to at least some if not<br/>
all intents & purposes for some period of time<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
the recessional & self rescue of the walking happy but<br/>
wet & wounded included getting a bit lost & puzzled &<br/>
my pulling a topological solution out of the hat<br/>
<br/>
which impressed jc<br/>
who was also looking forward to getting back under<br/>
cover asap<br/>
as much as her rock finding had impressed me <br/>
& suggests we make a good combo <br/>
<br/>
now i hasten also to add that all of my complaints are<br/>
superficial & of course not actually complaints at all<br/>
since true adventurers cant & dont complain<br/>
but i would say drawing a minimal amount of blood like<br/>
this may be quintessential & indispensable for any<br/>
truly extreme undertaking to be deemed a success<br/>
with the proviso that it be the less blood the better<br/>
which this was<br/>
<br/>
but it slowed me down enough to blow off all further<br/>
pursuit on foot for the rest of the day & perhaps for<br/>
a few more days to come<br/>
<br/>
which is a second & quite independent cause for my<br/>
sudden if temporary suspension of activity in the<br/>
berkshires<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
so maybe i will save my tale of dahiwa for tomorrow &<br/>
thus deliberately age it as well as recreate myself<br/>
for 1 more day<br/>
before returning to pittsfield for some more truth<br/>
