in a first & indeed totally unexpected occurrence of<br/>
probable wetness among the berkshire 44 <br/>

& it is enough to send the entire project into a<br/>
direct tailspin<br/>
since a significant part of the point of the try was<br/>
for a presumably attainable perfection<br/>
whereas now there is a substantial doubt as to whether<br/>
any such perfection is even loosely reachable in the<br/>
present venue<br/>
<br/>
for even if all the hard nuts do miraculously crack<br/>
with a gps receiver<br/>
this single point of unattainability may still remain<br/>
<br/>
or so it appears for now<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
on the other hand<br/>
before anyone gets too excited & jumps off the deep<br/>
end<br/>
it should be recalled that there have already been<br/>
several dilapidated rocks recovered in this collection<br/>
that definitely blur their tripoint positions by at<br/>
least several horizontal inches<br/>
& there have also been at least a couple of tripoints<br/>
where duplicated monumentation has created an<br/>
uncertainty about the exact tripoint position on the<br/>
order of several horizontal feet<br/>
so a best possible visit to this possibly uniquely wet<br/>
& possibly uniquely unmarked hapiri tripoint may not<br/>
prove to be any less accurate than a visit to the<br/>
slackest of the 43 markers of the other points in the<br/>
series<br/>
<br/>
& moreover hapiri may not be wet today at all if her<br/>
pond has drained<br/>
& could be marked<br/>
whether wet or dry<br/>
usgs topo to the contrary notwithstanding<br/>
<br/>
& even if she is wet <br/>
she may still prove not to be uniquely wet<br/>
since there still remain many completely unexamined<br/>
tripoints<br/>
plus the earlier one that may have been swamped by<br/>
beavers<br/>
etc etc<br/>
<br/>
& so there is no need to abandon the overall try just<br/>
because of a little possible wetness at one point <br/>
& still every reason to press on<br/>
as i do <br/>
with try point number 27<br/>

with a score of 22 down to 5 up & 17 left for 44 right<br/>
