with the southernmost 20 berkshire town tripoints
already fully tried
http://www.berkshireweb.com/themap/index.html
the overall coverage is now proceeding northward as
follows

21
the presently ongoing try that was begun yesterday is
for
hipewa
the hinsdale peru washington tripoint
http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4694244&e=657097&s=25&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25
which looks to be about 214 feet from a road
possibly named fassell road in hinsdale per the usgs
topo
but evidently also named east washington road per
mapquest
& a viable approach to the neighborhood has already
been confirmed
but the actual point try remains to be carried out

22
lnpiwa
or lenox pittsfield washington
http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4695850&e=645863&s=25&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25
apparently combines urban with remote by suggesting a
roughly 2968 foot bushwhack from a residential
neighborhood at right angles to a road & a stone wall
& a forest border
along a lnpi municipal boundary that one could hope is
blazed
since pittsfield is a city

23
lnpiri
lenox pittsfield richmond
http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4697330&e=640377&s=25&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25
looks to be about 600 feet from some homes
but perhaps more importantly about 1010 feet bearing
s10e of where their driveway is crossed by a stone
wall
since that is probably a better point for a concealed
approach thru the woods
in which there is again reason to hope for help from a
blazed city line

24
dahiwa
dalton hinsdale washington
http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4697200&e=650652&s=50&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25
looks to be about 485 feet bearing n26e of a knoll top
of uncertain accessibility
with an initial try most likeably via pittsfield road
aka blotz road
proceeding northwestward from route 8 in hinsdale
with the intention of somehow skirting south of the
upper sackett reservoir so as to approach the target
knoll from the east & south

25
dapiwa
dalton pittsfield washington
http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4697259&e=647963&s=50&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25
seems to require skirting both a reservoir & a gravel
pit
but a residential neighborhood to the north offers a
possible entree
as well as a bearing of s10w & a distance of about
1113 feet from the intervening brook

26
hapiri
hancock pittsfield richmond
but yikes whats this
http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4707175&e=638727&s=25&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25
no marker indicated
& this baby is looking decidedly aqueous to boot
in a first & indeed totally unexpected occurrence of
probable wetness among the berkshire 44

& it is enough to send the entire project into a
direct tailspin
since a significant part of the point of the try was
for a presumably attainable perfection
whereas now there is a substantial doubt as to whether
any such perfection is even loosely reachable in the
present venue

for even if all the hard nuts do miraculously crack
with a gps receiver
this single point of unattainability may still remain

or so it appears for now

on the other hand
before anyone gets too excited & jumps off the deep
end
it should be recalled that there have already been
several dilapidated rocks recovered in this collection
that definitely blur their tripoint positions by at
least several horizontal inches
& there have also been at least a couple of tripoints
where duplicated monumentation has created an
uncertainty about the exact tripoint position on the
order of several horizontal feet
so a best possible visit to this possibly uniquely wet
& possibly uniquely unmarked hapiri tripoint may not
prove to be any less accurate than a visit to the
slackest of the 43 markers of the other points in the
series

& moreover hapiri may not be wet today at all if her
pond has drained
& could be marked
whether wet or dry
usgs topo to the contrary notwithstanding

& even if she is wet
she may still prove not to be uniquely wet
since there still remain many completely unexamined
tripoints
plus the earlier one that may have been swamped by
beavers
etc etc

& so there is no need to abandon the overall try just
because of a little possible wetness at one point
& still every reason to press on
as i do
with try point number 27
hipewi
aka hinsdale peru windsor
which at bottom center here
is looking relatively remote & challenging
http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4706068&e=658790&s=50&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25
& i think i would like to probe the various access
routes before deciding on the direction of approach
for the actual try

& i dont mean to suggest i will try all 7 tries in a
single day
but i am preparing maps for all of them & planning
another possible outing for this weekend
& if i got real lucky & somehow did ace all 7
in any period of time
then that would mark halfway to completion
with a score of 22 down to 5 up & 17 left for 44 right
