Wrong again.  As of 1955, when the occupation ended, the bases <br/>
continued to exist under German sovereignty, with the US operating<br/>
within them under provisions of the then-new Status of Forces<br/>
Agreement - which didn&#39;t cover the Russian locale in question.  The<br/>
bases continue to this day, and the Germans participate a lot in their<br/>
operation.  They even tightened the screws on the US a few notches in<br/>
the late 1990s - we now operate under a revised SoFA that contains<br/>
fewer prerogatives for the US.<br/>
